Member Spotlight: Nicole Dick

Many people at GPMS take advantage of much of what the makerspace has to offer and Nicole Dick is no exception. While her favorite crafts are stained glass and crocheting, Nicole also can be found sewing, fusing glass, using the laser cutter to make earrings, learning more about pottery with her daughters, and maybe (if she’s feeling crazy) using the wood shop tools.
Nicole has been with the makerspace since 2018, mostly teaching classes. She is the current Board president and coordinates the GPMS shelf for members to sell their makes at the Main Street Market Hub in downtown Garden City. She is a math instructor at GCCC, wife, mom, hockey player, and loves a good homemade chocolate chip cookie.
Bees at GPMS!
During the March 2026 board meeting, Jade Like visited with GPMS to discuss the possibility of bringing bees to the makerspace. After some information sharing and question asking, both Jade and GPMS thought this would be an excellent opportunity for our community! During late April, Jade and her family brought two hives to their new home in the the north courtyard at the makerspace.
Jade operates Four and Thirty Farms and has years of bee keeping experience. She will be holding a few different classes and open sessions at GPMS to teach interested community members about bees and beekeeping. Keep an eye out out on Facebook and our website to see what classes are being offered!

News and Updates
- Sublimation Printing – Thanks to donations from Staples, a few members, and the knowledge of Lexie, GPMS has a dedicated sublimation printer! Sublimation printing uses a special ink printed on special paper which, when heat is applied, turns the ink into a gas that adheres to the material. It creates a vibrant, permanent design. If you are interested in learning how to use this, please contact a board member or ask about it on our Discord. We plan to offer a training session, it just hasn’t been scheduled yet.
- WISE 2026 – Last year GPMS was awarded a grant from Women of Purpose, part of which included a program we called WISE: Women, Innovation, Skills, and Entrepreneurship. This year we are offering the program again, with some small changes. Our goal will be to help people who are currently vendors or are looking to become vendors. We’ll talk about business plans, GPMS tools and resources, and host a vendor market in late summer for them to apply their new skills!
- Volunteers in Ceramics – GPMS is lucky to have a couple of knowledgeable members working to help our Ceramics lab grow. Elena has been teaching classes with us for over a year. Priscilla recently joined and has been getting dirty and working hard to reclaim clay. She has also been refreshing her wheel-throwing skills!
